Frequently Asked Questions
How soon can we get to you if your roof is leaking? What you can do--NOW to minimize leak damage.
See our in depth answer to these questions.
Can I get a quote on the phone?
No. There are many variables and details that need to be seen in
order to diagnose the types of repairs you would need to have done.
Estimates are free and will give you a more accuarate cost.
My roof holds water. What are my options?
It depends on how much water is standing. Too much weight on the
roof can be dangerous. Water can often be drained off the roof by
installing canales or roof drains. A more expensive option is sloping
the roof to give it a slight angle so that water can drain off.
Sloping and building up low areas would require roof material to
be replaced. Here in Albuquerque and throughout New Mexico, flat
roofs have been used for years and many old roofs can be helped
with the techniques mentioned above. The materials used in a flat
roof are resistant to the heat and sun.
How long do roofs last?
Asphalt shingle roofs are factory rated in 20, 30, 40 and 50 year
ratings. Because of the UV rays here, they may start to break down
a few years prior to that time. Lighter colors last longer. Tar
and gravel (built up fiberglass) roofs typically last between 12
and 15 years if they are properly maintained and kept clean. Sun
exposure, decaying leaves or pine needles and lack of maintenance
can significantly shorten your roof's lifespan.
What is the difference between a manufacturer's warranty and
a labor warranty?
Manufacturers warranties give approximate life expectancies of various
roofing materials under average weather conditions. Roofing contractors
issue warranties that guarantee the quality of their workmanship.
Can
roofs be installed any time of the year?
Yes. The weather in Albuquerque and New Mexico is moderate enough
that roofing can be done all year. Naturally, we don't install roofs
if it is actually raining, snowing or if the wind speeds are over
25 miles per hour.
Which should I replace first, my stucco or my roof?
To avoid damage to new stucco it is better in most cases to have
the roof replaced first and then the stucco. If the stucco is too
old and cracked then it will need to be replaced in order to have
a solid surface on which to adhere the new roofing material.
Is it a good idea to replace my air conditioner at the same
time the roof is being replaced?
Yes. This way the new roof won't be compromised by changing out
the a/c later. It will also save you money by only having to pay
labor to move the unit one time.
How
often should we have our roof checked?
Once every year or two the roof should be checked to make sure all
sealants are intact, canales and drains are free of debris, etc.
How often should we expect to have maintenance done?
Once every two or three years on areas that have sealants. Roofs
should always be kept free of organic debris. This varies depending
on where you live, the number and type of trees you have and the
type of roof you have.
